Tillie began volunteering at Volunteer South in November of 2020. Originally from California, she moved to New Zealand in December 2019 to travel and quickly fell in love with the country. Upon visiting Dunedin she decided this was the place for her and began to set roots down here. With a Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology and a passion for volunteering and helping others she decided to apply for the Masters in Social and Community Work (Applied) programme at the University of Otago where she will be studying for the next two years.
Her primary driving force for volunteering and social work stem from her father's battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Diagnosed in 1999, her father's disease would have an impact on Tillie which inspired her to want to help others who are growing up with a sick parent or loved one in the home. In time she hopes to learn more about the non-profit sector to hopefully play a greater role in helping those in her community who can benefit from her time.
