Emergency volunteers needed

Emergency volunteering information as at 7PM, Monday, 4th of January, 2021

Dunedin update:
4th of Jan
7PM: No further updates or support needed.

A huge thank you to all those who volunteered to help in the community!

3rd ofJan
4PM: Volunteers are needed to take sandbags from the South Dunedin site to Ocean View. If you can help, please turn up to the South Dunedin site as soon as possible.

2:30PM: Sandbagging at the South Dunedin site has been completed and sandbags are available to be picked up by anyone requiring them. Please call 477 4000 if you require assistance to get them to your house.

Thank you to all the volunteers that turned up on both Saturday and on Sunday to help out. Your hard work will hopefully keep people prepared for the incoming weather.

11:30AM: More sandbagging is required!

With more rain forecasted this afternoon we will be filling more sandbags. Meet at 12.15pm at Tahuna Park. (Not at Ice Stadium).

Please bring a shovel. An hour of your time would be appreciated.

10:30AM: No further assistance required from volunteers at this stage but support is currently on standby.

2nd ofJan
6:30PM: Sand bags have been filled and are available at both the Ice Stadium and Memorial Park carpark in Mosgiel. People can continue to collect them but demand has been low and so volunteers and staff have been sent home.

There will be a further decision at 9:30PM as to needs around the wider Dunedin area.

2PM: Dunedin City Council now has two stations for sandbagging as a precautionary measure. You are more than welcome to turn up to these areas to volunteer your services, but please note that you may not be needed straight away as demand rises and falls.

The locations are:
Dunedin Ice Stadium Carpark, Victoria Road,
St Kilda Memorial Park car park, Gordon Road, Mosgiel.

If you can, please bring a shovel.

11AM: At Volunteer South, we maintain an active database of people who can help in emergencies and are not already trained with an emergency agency. While the callout for sandbagging hasn't gone out, we're here and ready if that happens!
