Kahu Youth offers all youth of the Upper Clutha region opportunities for positive events, activities, programmes and support.
The youth workers provide organised, directed activities/events on a regular basis for youth aged 11-24 while incorporating a wide range of members of the local community. They also provide positive channels through which young people may achieve success and gain recognition. They advocate and encourage a voice for local youth.

Volunteers are being sought to assist in the running of our drop in sessions. Role include helping to cook meals, coordinate any activities that may be running that evening and generally ‘keep an eye’ on the young people that attend. These sessions can get quite loud and we currently have between 15 and 30 young people aged between 11 and 20 attending each night. Overall there are around 70 young people who attend. If the volunteers have any interests or hobbies they would like to share as an activity, they are more than welcome.

Volunteers work alongside youth workers and will gain an insight into their work, whilst gaining experience supporting young people. We hope volunteers will really enjoy their role and establish great relationships with the young people in the Upper Clutha.

Requirements

Some youth work experience would be useful although not necessary. An outgoing, confident personality would be a big plus. You must be able to cope with loud noise, chaos and late finishes. Its loads of fun if you love kids and don't mind noise!

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Volunteers should be available for at least 2 months. Sessions run on Fridays 6pm – 10pm and Saturdays 3pm -10pm. Volunteers are welcome to attend one or both sessions.
