We're especially looking for someone with knowledge of Xero who can work with our existing treasurer. Committee members contribute to and oversee all aspects of the running of Abbeyfield Dunedin, a small (9 en suite rooms), not for profit retirement home for active and independent seniors. Whilst each Committee member has a portfolio, such as Volunteer Coordination, Grant Applications, Fund Raising, House Maintenance etc, all contribute to policy formation through Committee meetings. Abbeyfield Dunedin has two Committees - the Executive Committee which oversees governance (statutory requirements, liaison with Abbeyfield New Zealand and other external bodies, financial oversight etc, and the House Committee which oversees the day to day running of the House e.g. maintenance, resident liaison, admissions, community events. The Executive Committee meets once every two months and the House Committee meets monthly. In between meetings Committee members follow up on decisions taken at the meetings. There are also more social events where Committee members meet with the residents.

Experience in committee work would be a definite advantage. Equally important are the personal qualities of being highly reliable, dependable and being highly organised. Following through with commitments and completing tasks on time is really important. Appreciating that volunteer work still requires a high degree of professionalism is also important. Although this is by no means essential, a background in legal work would compliment the current Committee make-up at this time.
