Community Activities Companion/Driver

Able Charitable Trust

Working Hours

This role requires a volunteer with a Driver's Licence (we will supply the vehicle) to drive a small group of clients (between 1 and 5) to community activities such as for example - fitness groups, walking groups, arts or crafts groups, dog walking etc. and accompany them throughout the activity before dropping them back at our premises in South Dunedin. Any costs to take part in the activities will be paid for by Able organization.

We will have a one to one meeting with the volunteer to explain a little about our organization and what we do as well as about the volunteer position.

We provide orientation and would accompany the volunteer for the first two or three times to the activity or until they feel comfortable doing it alone. We also accompany them on an initial drive of the car so they feel  comfortable driving our vehicle. We offer support and encouragement by being readily available to answer questions or listen to any concerns they may have. We reimburse for the cost of any activity that the volunteer attends.

Volunteers must have a current Driver’s licence and ‘people skills’

A Police background check is required for this role.

These activities take place at different times and days between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm from Monday to Friday.
