We receive phone calls 24/7 that sometimes require us to go and rescue a bird in distress or pick one up and we also receive injured or sick birds at the rehabilitation centre delivered from members of the public.
Full training will be given in physical bird handling, rescue protocols, identifying and caring for birds. Personal protective equipment will be provided.
All volunteers must be over 18 years of age, own their own vehicle, and their own smart phone.
The successful applicant must be reliable, be contactable at all times and willing to make an ongoing commitment to Bird Rescue Dunedin.
You will be flexible in your working style, willing and able to go on errands or be involved in rescues at short notice as requested. These errands can be assisting with a call out, shopping and releasing birds.
You must be willing to get your hands dirty, be physically fit, able to lift reasonably heavy loads and have no respiratory conditions.
In this role you will be dealing with different types of birds including wild birds, gulls, ducks, cockatoos budgies and chickens, so a genuine love of all birds is required.
