The Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is produced by Dunedin Midwinter Celebrations, a registered charitable trust based in Dunedin. They believe it is important to celebrate the distinct seasons in a way that is appropriate to our local environment.

Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is a beautiful annual event, and celebration of the winter season, with large scale installations of lanterns, performance and music. Join with their creative community as they prepare for this iconic Dunedin event.

Lantern Making Workshop Assistants will be:

  • Learning to make the Lanterns yourself firstly
  • Helping families to construct festival lanterns at the workshop by guiding them through the process
  • Constructing stunning Carnival Lanterns using tape, wire, glue
  • Helping people of all ages at the workshops (which are set up as a series of stations where volunteers)

Training Provided:

  • You will be provided with full training on how to help others make Carnival Lanterns prior to the workshops

Requirements

  • Great people skills (able to relate to people from all walks of life)
  • Friendly and patient
  • Able to show others how to construct lanterns using tape, wire, glue
  • Attend at least 2 of the workshop days over the 4 weekends
  • You also need to attend the orientation workshop and and induction
    (If you have made lanterns before your induction can be shorter)

Time commitment

  • All Workshop Volunteers will need to be at the locations from 9am to 4:30pm
  • Training and Orientation Date: Saturday 18th May or Sunday 19th of May 2-4pm
  • Location: Meridian Mall

Workshop Dates:

  • 25th and 26th May
  • 1st and 2nd June
  • 8th and 9th June
  • 15th and 16th June
