Central Cinema is a community cinema based in the ODT Theatre at Central Stories in the heart of Alexandra. The cinema screens current mainstream and art house movies, runs occasional film festivals and can source films requested by the community. Central Cinema uses state of the art digital projection with excellent surround sound in a comfortable, warm and cosy environment.
Films are shown at least 5 times weekly with special screenings and other events on a regular basis.
Central Cinema is run entirely by volunteers and is fully self-funded. We are passionate about what we do and believe that bringing movies to people in Central Otago is a very valuable social service.
Committee members are required to assist with the administration and planning of future screenings and projects.
There are also a wide variety of other possible tasks which would not necessary require people to join the committee. If you wish to assist in some way then please get in touch, we welcome people with new ideas and skills to join our team.
An induction and support is available as needed and we hope volunteers volunteers gain satisfaction from contributing to the arts and providing a community service. Many volunteers enjoy the interaction with others and hone their relationship and communication skills.
Members of the committee are elected annually at the AGM, but enquiries are welcome anytime. Minimum age 16 years.
People interested in the position need to have good written and oral communication skills, be able to work constructively with others and represent the cinema positively and passionately in the community.
The time commitment varies depending on the tasks undertaken. A monthly meeting of a few hours is the minimum time required.
