Social Centre Supporter

The aim of Prime Timers is to provide social support and advocacy to all members of the club, membership to the club is open to all men and women aged from 60 years who live in the Upper Clutha District.

The club provides social entertainment, friendship and companionship. They host meetings and day trips for the members and has a weekly exercise class.

Volunteers assist with arranging the room for the meeting which involves shifting furniture and returning it at the end of each session. Volunteers also assist with the preparation and serving of afternoon tea and any small tasks the coordinator requires. There is plenty of time to chat and socialise with members which is an enjoyable part of the role.

It is hoped volunteers will feel a valued member of the team, will enjoy getting to know the other volunteers and will gain satisfaction from enabling senior citizens to join others and have fun. You may also gain an insight into supporting older people.

Requirements

Volunteers should be 16 years and over and ideally should be able to assist with moving furniture and understand food handling. Volunteers should have an interest in older people and feel happy chatting to and assisting with their needs both at the social meetings and when going out.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Social meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month between 1.30-4pm. Volunteers should be available between 1.30pm and 4pm.
