Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is a beautiful annual event and celebration of the Winter Season, complete with large scale lantern installations, performance and music. The Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is produced by Dunedin Midwinter Celebrations, a registered charitable trust also based in Dunedin, who believe it is important to celebrate the distinct seasons in a way that is creative, fun, engaging and appropriate to our local environment.

They currently have a large number of volunteer roles available for you choose from, and to help them with, this Carnival night!

As a Midwinter Carnival Event Support Crew you could do one of the following:

  • Art team assistants
  • Brazier keepers
  • Crowd management/safety
  • Information tent/carnival merchandise
  • Procession guides
  • Ticketing team
  • Night market crew
  • Food sales
  • Set up
  • Pack down

They are unable to guarantee which role you will be given but they will endeavour to give you a role that suits your skills and experience. Become a part of this treasured annual celebration that acknowledges our distinctive seasons in a creative and uplifting way.

Training Provided:

  • You will be provided with an orientation on what is required to perform your role at the induction evening

  • As the roles are diverse they will have something to suit everyone who is keen to get involved in Dunedin's premiere winter event for the public

Time commitment

  • Availability on June 21 and 22
  • Between 2 and 6 hours in the evenings
  • Volunteers will also need to attend an Induction Evening prior to the event
    (exact times and dates TBC)
  • They hope that everyone who volunteers will be able to help out on both nights
