Central Otago REAP provides a diverse and extensive educational resource to rural communities, implementing a life long learning approach. The overall purpose of Central Otago REAP is to provide educational support and assistance across all sectors including early childhood, primary, secondary and adult education. Central Otago REAP is a community-based flexible resource providing formal and non-formal learning opportunities.
REAP often run courses targeted at parents who are unable to attend if they cannot bring their pre-schoolers with them. These courses are often crucial for parents for increasing their skills, social networks and confidence.
This role involves interacting and entertaining preschoolers so their parent is able to participate more and get maximum gain from course attendance. Parents and course supervisors are also present whilst undertaking this role. Although ideal it is not essential that you are able to attend every session of a course.
Volunteers gain great communication and relationship skills from interacting with toddlers and their parents. Volunteers gain satisfaction in seeing the benefits and progress of parents participating in the course. It is great experience for those who enjoy observing and interacting with preschoolers.
Volunteers should enjoy spending time with toddlers and interacting positively with them. In most cases it will be fine to bring your own baby/toddlers/children with you if you need to.
Courses are run periodically in Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka and timing depends on the course schedule but they are usually once a week hours during work hours.
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
