Pre-School Kapahaka Assistant

Central Otago REAP provides a diverse and extensive educational resource to rural communities, implementing a life long learning approach. The overall purpose of Central Otago REAP is to provide educational support and assistance across all sectors including early childhood, primary, secondary and adult education.  Central Otago REAP is a community-based flexible resource providing formal and non-formal learning opportunities.

The session involves a welcome, waiata and dancing.  Many of the children bring kai to share and this is consumed at group time at the end of the music session.  The attendees are a mixture of parents with their own toddlers and early childhood teachers with some of the children in their care.
We require an assistant to help welcome attendees, assist with resources during the music session, help with the setting up and cleanup and generally keep an overall eye out to help things run smoothly.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in your community and have an awesome social experience in a fun environment. You will be able to meet new people of various ages and bring joy to the day of young people and their carers.

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Are personable, welcoming and have excellent communication.
  • Have a natural love of children and enjoy encouraging them to give things a go.
  • Have an interest in Maori culture with a willingness to learn more.
  • Have a practical mind and the ability to use your initiative.

A Police background check is required for this role.

The programme is held on Monday morning each week, 11am until 12.30pm, at the lounge attached to St Enochs Church beside the Alexandra Community House. Volunteers are needed at the hall most Mondays during term-time between 10.45am and 12.45pm.
