Located in the heart of Cromwell, the Cromwell Community House is a Central Otago District Council owned facility and resource centre for locals.

Managed by a Volunteer Trust we aim to foster community and social development by;

  • Helping to empower people to solve their own problems, advocating on their behalf where necessary.
  • Offering individuals and groups advice, support and resources.

Cromwell Community House provides a range of services to the area including:

  • Empowering and advocating
  • Offering advice, support and resources
  • Holding information and forms on a huge range of organisations
  • Phone, Internet and photocopying services
  • Food and furniture bank
  • Hosting Support Groups, professionals and Community Meetings
  • Heartlands Outreach Centre

A volunteer receptionist is required to cover the front desk and enabling the team to undertake their other key roles. Tasks include:

  • Answering the phone
  • Meet and greet at the reception desk
  • Scanning and printing documents for customers.
  • Assisting customers using the computer to search for jobs.

The main enquiries will be for:

  • An appointment with one of our room users so they take a seat and wait to be called.
  • Foodbank requests
  • Volunteer driver requests

As confidence grows extra tasks or projects of interest may be taken on, adding room bookings to the Teamup calendar, answering emails, assisting people with online applications etc.

It will be a very gentle transition but with the intention of giving the CCH team space to concentrate on funding applications, accounts, budgets and online meetings etc.

A member of staff will be there while the volunteer is at the front desk so they will always have back up and able to ask questions.

We hope volunteers will enjoy:

  • Gaining an understanding of community needs.
  • Making an invaluable contribution to the community.
  • Gaining an understanding of agencies that operate in the area.
  • Meeting some extraordinary people.

We are looking for personable, well presented volunteers who are happy using computers and carrying out basic administrative tasks as well as manning the phone. Volunteers should have great interpersonal skills, respect confidentiality, be reliable, non-judgemental and have good spoken and written English.
