The Salvation Army has been fighting poverty, social and spiritual distress in New Zealand since 1883. They treat people with the care and dignity they deserve. They believe everyone has the right to physical, social and spiritual support. The Salvation Army are committed to finding practical responses to human needs. Their reward is seeing individuals, families and communities change for the better.
Volunteers are sought to help with the community garden which grows produce for our food bank. This would be growing seeds, planting and helping to keep the garden tidy.
Volunteers will develop their own gardening skills and enjoy seeing the fruits of their labour grow and be shared amongst the community. There are around 30 volunteers who help maintain the garden so it can be a nice social role with the opportunity to meet others.
Ideally volunteers will have some knowledge of gardening and be able to tell a weed from a plant - however willingness and enthusiasm are more essential. Ability to use a weed eater will be welcomed.
A few hours a week on Thursday mornings.
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
