Orphans Aid International is a Charitable Trust, founded and run by people who care about the marginalised and disadvantaged amongst us. They care about the child who has no parent, the child who has no home, the child who is not loved.
They care enough to do something about it. They’re throwing a lifeline to children and adults who desperately need assistance. We are a diverse team of staff and volunteers who all have a passion to see children loved and cared for.
Since 2004 Orphans Aid International has worked in Romania, Russia, India and New Zealand. Their goal is to rescue abandoned children, placing orphaned and abandoned children into loving and sustainable families.
Based in the Orphans Aid International Shop, volunteers assist in selling an extensive range of Fair Trade products as well as products sourced from Romania, Russia and Uganda.
The shop offers a pleasant, spacious and clean environment in which to volunteer. Rather than an op shop - the shop specialises in Fair Trade items and microenterprise that directly helps individuals and families in developing countries. In particular the kind of business that offers alternatives to prostitution in India and helps the widow in Uganda provide for her family and the other orphans she fosters. There are some very unique items directly from the projects we are involved with and included clothing, textiles, gifts, crafts, food and drinks.
They hope volunteers enjoy being part of an international organisation which has huge benefits around the world. They will be supported by a very friendly and motivated manager and have the opportunity to develop their skills within retail, whilst gaining satisfaction from mixing with customers and helping to raise funds for the organisation.
Volunteers must be friendly and well presented. Honesty is a must and reliability also very important. Able to work unsupervised at times. Interested in humanitarian issues, abandoned children in other countries and here in NZ.
