Wanaka Primary School is a learning community where we strive to make a real difference for our students within a supportive, yet dynamic atmosphere. We aim to promote educative achievement, both individually and collectively to the highest possible standard. We create opportunities for and stimulate learning, academic achievement, personal growth, physical well-being, social development and cultural awareness and appreciation.
Our school mission statement is ‘Empowering a Community of Learners’.
We are looking for some friendly volunteers with a positive and and caring attitude to work alongside children during lunchtimes to develop their skills and love of growing food and looking after gardens.
Volunteers will support students while:
Volunteer will gain skills of working with children. Satisfaction of helping children learn about where food comes from and how they can make our gardens sustainable. Contribution to the community. The school often donate produce to 'Food for Love' and sometimes make meals for them. Food for Love donate food to families and individuals in the community who are facing challenges in their lives and appreciate the extra love and help.
Volunteers should enjoy being with children and have an interest in growing veggies. They should be patient and have the ability to work with a small group of children aged 5-11.
Some handyman skills will be needed to make the fruit cage frames but a positive, caring attitude is more important when working with the students.
A teacher will always be around to make sure children are behaving appropriately and to support the volunteer to complete activities.
