Every day, an average of six New Zealanders turn to Blind Low Vision NZ for support with sight loss. Some are still reeling and are looking for emotional support; many want to find ways to remain self-reliant, to stay in work and get around independently. All want to find ways of doing the things that are important to them. Blind Low Vision NZ is here to provide practical and emotional support, to advocate for inclusive communities and lead the way in vision rehabilitation.
Blind Low Vision NZ is looking for a suitable person who is able to volunteer a few hours a month riding a tandem bike with a client in his mid 50's. This client is a beginner rider and has use of a tandem bike owned by Blind Low Vision NZ.
As the Pilot rider your basic role is being ‘the eyes’ of the tandem – pedalling and steering from the front, enjoying the wind in your face and keeping your low vision rider informed of what’s going on around you!
If you feel you are able to help out with this role, they would love to hear from you!
A Blind Low Vision NZ staff member will guide you on your new journey as a Blind Low Vision NZ volunteer, and for only a couple of hours a month, it’s a fantastic and easy way to support your local community!
Interested volunteers but be:
Time commitment is negotiable but riding at least once a fortnight would be preferred.
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
