Outreach Volunteer

Volunteer South

Information & Advice

This role has been specifically designed for Otago Polytechnic students in Dunedin - if you are interested in a similar role, please don't hesitate to contact us at office@volunteersouth.org.nz for more information.

Our Outreach volunteers are people who are passionate about supporting people into meaningful volunteer opportunities by having a conversation with them about what they want to get out of volunteering, where their own passions lie and how they can best support the community based on their interests.

This involves connecting with people, building relationships and supporting people to take bold moves for volunteer opportunities. It also means taking an interest in peoples lives and supporting them in making meaningful decisions in their own lives.

Outreach volunteers will encourage people to consider volunteering, talk with them and then support them in the application process. All of this will be done using the Volunteer South website and database so some technical expertise will be required.

  • Friendly, engaging personality with a passion for supporting people from all walks of life
  • Be enthusiastic about peoples sense of purpose and life direction, whatever that may be
  • Be technologically literate - and be able to communicate this technology expertise to those who may struggle with technology
  • Have the ability to commit to at least one (3 hour) shift per month with the opportunity to take on more if wanted!

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

This opportunity works around you, your lifestyle and commitments!

  • At least 1 three hour shift a month in the morning or the afternoon
  • This is a roster system, so you will be scheduled in a month in advance - no worries if you need to change as we know life happens all the time
  • You can do more shifts as wanted, but only once per day (no full day shifts are available)
