Community Volunteer

Mums4Mums and Wanaka Well, supported by Well South, provide drop in sessions for families needing breastfeeding and general parenting support. The sessions run in each hub of Central Lakes where parents can meet, have a cup of tea and a supportive chat; to know they are doing okay as a new parent and that parenthood is a journey that you don't need to take alone. This is a place for new parents to find their own groove with other supportive Mums/parents.

Do you have a passion for supporting others in their breastfeeding and parenting journey?
Do you enjoy the opportunity to welcome and host members of the community at drop in sessions?
If so, become involved as a community volunteer at the bi-monthly drop in sessions for parents facilitated by Peer Supporters in Alexandra, Cromwell, Wanaka and Queenstown.

The smooth running of such sessions relies on community volunteers to help create an environment whereby everyone attending, volunteers, mothers, babies and whanau experience a sense of nurturing, feel valued, have all the time they need and are very comfortable, whilst helping to develop a sense of community.

This role involves greeting families, supplying them with refreshments, playing with children (of the families attending and of the peer supporters) especially reading books and dressing up!

Training will be provided which focuses on health and safety, boundaries and practicalities. Ongoing support will also be provided. There will be ongoing opportunities to join the peer support programme and to link in with other networks. Volunteers gain satisfaction from playing their part in supporting families in the area and enjoy spending time with children, other volunteers and peer support staff.

Volunteers interested in this role need to have a genuine interest in families, be friendly, reliable, responsible, happy and confident around young babies. Volunteers should be happy chatting to people from all walks of life and will be asked to adhere to confidentiality guidelines.

A Police background check is required for this role.
