Ronald McDonald Family Room Volunteer

The Ronald McDonald Family Room, Southland Hospital opened in December, 2013 and is directly linked to the Children's and Neonatal wards.
It acts as a place where parents and families can stay together. Parents can step away from the hospital environment whilst remaining only steps away from their child's hospital bed.
The Family Room features four overnight bedrooms with ensuites as well as kitchen and dining facilities, a lounge, laundry and an outdoor courtyard. It is more than just a house and provides a "home away from home" for families who have to leave their community, either short or long term.
Our families are never charged.

Requirements

Ronald McDonald Family Room Volunteer roles covers a wide and varied range of tasks

  • Daily cleaning of communal living areas; kitchen; dining room; living room
  • Cleaning and preparing bedrooms for guest use
  • Assisting with restocking of snacks, baking buffet or stock as required
  • Providing assistance as required to the Family Room Supervisor (e.g. helping with deliveries & donations, assisting with guests/visitors needs.
  • Other housekeeping duties as needed.

Clear Police Check (to be obtained via Ronald McDonald House South Island)
2 Referees acceptable to Ronald McDonald House South Island

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Initially - Interview/meeting with Family Room Supervisor
  • 1 hour orientation introducing the volunteer to policies and procedures
  • 1 Shift (3 hour either 9am-12noon/1pm-4pm) spent with our Ronald McDonald Family Room Volunteer who will provide on the job training followed
    by an induction and on the job training with the Family Room Coordinator at the Family Room

One Shift per week/fortnight
