Bainfield Gardens aims to provide a place where people who face the challenge of mental illness can learn work-based skills in a healing environment. People are needed to help in areas such as working in the gardens, planting, cultivating and encouraging clients. The ideal volunteer will be keen to develop their skills and enjoy helping people progress towards wellbeing.

Practical skills would be immensely helpful - particularly mechanical or construction. But there are loads of ways to help - a batch of scones for morning tea would be hugely appreciated!

This Role would suit people who:

  • Have a diversity of life skills and experience - that they can use to walk alongside people who struggle with mental health).
  • Can help to create a place where people can come to heal.
  • Might be able to assist others to learn basic skills such as gardening - in a culture of encouragement and support.
  • Enjoy conversation and explaining things in a non judgmental way
  • Enjoy and have a knowledge of gardening
  • Have the ability to teach/impart life skills
  • Can take the lead
  • Asign tasks to others
  • Can work with a site manager

If you would like to give back to your community, and bring enjoyment into people's lives, as you help them to find a sense of purpose, Bainfield Gardens could very well be the place for you!

Requirements

  • Ideally you will have some knowledge of gardening and be able to tell a weed from a plant - but this can be taught, and the most important thing is willingness and enthusiasm to learn.

Time commitment

Anytime Monday - Friday 9am - 2pm - the manager will work with you to fit the volunteering around what suits you. You could come for the whole day or an hour here and there.
