When patients are in hospital for lengthy stays, having familiar faces around can make their stay happier and more comfortable. Hospital Friends provide someone to sit and talk to, to read with or to be a shoulder to lean on.
This support can include helping at meal times, making beverages, providing comfort and reassurance, supporting rehabilitation activities to assist patients with hand-eye coordination (i.e. help with a jigsaw puzzle, bingo, card game etc). Talking with these patients is incredibly important.
Given the nature of this ward, there will be times when grieving families and friends will require comfort and support. Naturally, your caring and empathetic nature and genuine interest in the wellbeing of others will help provide the comfort they need.
Ultimately, we are looking for people who have an aptitude to working with a diversity of cultures that will bring passion to this crucial function within the St John Hospital Friends Service. We offer ongoing training and support, a uniform and St John membership.
Come join us, it could change your life. Working with a dedicated team, and giving something valuable back to your community can be incredibly rewarding.
