Sandfly Bay - Wildlife Viewing Ranger

Sandfly Bay is one of the Otago Peninsula’s most popular destinations, featuring yellow-eyed penguins/hoiho, sea lions/rāpoka and other wildlife.
DOC is looking for some Wildlife Viewing Rangers to help educate visitors about the penguins and how to behave around wildlife.
With the borders opening up again, we are expecting visitor numbers to increase, so we need your help to protect our Taonga Species.

This role runs from mid-October 2022 to mid-April 2023 and volunteers must be able to commit to several nights a month.
All training will be provided.

Requirements

Medium fitness level. Beach access is via a steep sand dune.

Volunteers will need to provide their own transport to Sandfly Bay each evening which is a 20-minute drive from Dunedin.
There may be opportunities to carpool with other volunteers.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Late afternoon until early evening. Volunteers must be able to commit to several nights a month.
Mid-October 2022 to Mid-April 2023
