Fish tank cleaner - Iona Residential Aged Care Home, Oamaru

Presbyterian Support Otago

Practical Help

Iona has led the way in quality residential care for older people in North Otago for more than 60 years, offering rest home and hospital level care, with a secure dementia care unit, for up to 79 residents.

Iona is looking for a volunteer to clean an care for it's 2 fish tanks that are much loved by the homes residents. If cleaned regularly, each tank should take about one hour each to clean. This would need to be done every 3-4 week, at a time that suits the volunteer.
What would you do?

  • Ensure that the two fish tanks are cleaned every 3-4 weeks.
  • Engage with residents in a friendly manner
  • Give your time fortnightly or monthly depending your availability
  • You will receive a full orientation and training and you will always be working alongside staff.

No two days are the same, 2 hours goes very fast and it's a wonderfully rewarding experience. Beware- you might experience a 'helper's high' as your volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins!

Beautifully positioned in large park-like grounds, Iona is very much a part of the Oamaru community. Set back from the busy road, residents love to watch the world outside from the comfort of the lounges.

Staff and volunteers at Iona will welcome and support you in your role.

Please note: Presbyterian Support Otago office is closed over Christmas; the volunteer coordinator will not be available from 14 December 2022 until 23 January 2023. If you would like to volunteer asap, please contact Iona on 03 437 1870.
