Relay for Life is one of our biggest fundraisers and a chance for each community to come together to remember, celebrate and fight back against cancer! The Cancer Society is looking for hard working, dedicated locals to help run upcoming events in March 2023.

As part of the organisational team for this huge event, you will play an important role in supporting the Cancer Society with achieving their fundraising goals and overall mission of supporting individuals and families affected by cancer.

There are 2 events, and each event will have a committee.

  • North Otago 4 March 2023
  • Wanaka 18/19 March 2023

There are a variety of roles to fill in each committee including:

  • Chair
  • Operations and Logistics Coordinator
  • Activities, Prize and Community Involvement Coordinator
  • Entertainment Coordinator
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Survivorship and Key Ceremonies Coordinator

Please indicate your role of interest in your application for further details on each position. You will work closely with the local Cancer Society staff and volunteers. A full training and orientation will be provided, as well as ongoing support from the events coordinator.

Putting together a large scale event and witnessing the impact on the community is an incredibly meaningful experience for every single person involved- a great opportunity to give back! On the event days, volunteers will be taken care of with refreshments, as well as receive t-shirts and other goodies to recognise their hard work and accomplishment.

  • basic computer skills, understanding of Google drive
  • previous event experience a bonus, but not required

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Event times:

  • North Otago 4 March 2pm- 9pm.
  • Wanaka 18 March 3pm - 19 March 11am (attendance times to be determined by committee)

Leading up to the event:

  • Begin meeting/planning in the new year
  • Attend 2-4 committee meetings per month
  • Approximately 2-4hrs per week, increasing closer to the event
