The CanInspire Charitable Trust collaborate with host agencies whose clients are experiencing illness, trauma, or loss, and those that support them, through the provision of our CanBead jewellery-making and beading workshops. At our free workshops participants learn to make a necklace and earrings, or alternative beaded craft. At the conclusion of a workshop, first-time attendees receive a CanBead kitbag, including three bags of beads of their choice, so they can continue creating at home or when having treatment, as distraction therapy.
All the beads we use are from donations, including broken and unwanted jewellery, which is dismantled. Beads are washed and dried before giving to volunteers to sort by colour and size, in take home packs. This is quite a mindful activity.
Note: Bead sorting kits need to be collected and returned to staff in Queenstown, Dunedin, Invercargill or Gore. Not always available in all areas.
