Therapy Pet Team Leader

Hato Hone St John has developed a programme to share animal companions within local rest homes, hospitals and schools within the local community. Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to promote emotional wellbeing, and contact with gentle animals provides comfort and helps people to be happier. Therapy Pets is a voluntary programme that enhances the lives of others, and you can be a part of it!

They are looking for a passionate and driven individual to become a Therapy Pet Team Leader for our volunteer teams in Gore, Alexandra and Cromwell. They are also open to having Co-Team Leaders.

About the role:

  • Provide support and mentoring advice to the team
  • Recruit new volunteers, and liaise with the facilities visited by volunteers
  • Reporting and attending Area Committee Meetings as required
  • Organising recognition events, meetings and training for the team

Full support and training is provided by St John.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • An empathetic personality and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
  • Previous team management experience
  • Love of animals (experience working with animals a plus)
  • Competent computer skills
  • Over 18 years of age
  • Clean criminal record

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

This role is flexible and can work around your availability, but ideally you can commit at least 2-3 hours per week.
