Born and raised in China, Xuan has lived in New Zealand for many years and beautiful Otepoti Dunedin is her third homebase in Aotearoa. She has worked in academia, business and community service sectors, providing her with broad perspective on the challenges facing diverse communities.

She currently works as an internationally-certified community interpreter and a Regional Manager for Interpreting New Zealand, a not-for-profit interpreting service provider. Her professional life centres around removing language barriers across cultures and helping multicultural populations have a voice and equal access to vital services.

Having previously served on the national council for the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters (NZSTI), she remains actively involved with the society as a volunteer facilitator, leading professional peer support groups.

She values the vital role volunteers play in creating connected and resilient communities and is delighted to contribute her experience and energy to the work of Volunteer South.
