Working Hours

Invercargill, Winton

Whanau Awhina Plunket support families to ensure children reach their full potential in the first 5 years of life. Services available include parenting advice and support, child health promotion and health education. This organisation was founded on volunteers and continues to value the contributions that volunteers offer in many areas of our work throughout New Zealand.

Working alongside the Community Services Coordinator for this Messy Play Group, you can assist with:

  • the planning and preparation of sensory play for under 5's
  • shifting tables and chairs to prepare the area
  • setting up sensory stations (wet play, dry play, playground, community garden)
  • welcome and support families attending
  • help maintain a safe and fun environment for young tamariki to explore

This role would suit

  • parents (or grandparents) who would like to support others in the community
  • students of early childhood who can apply their learnings and have practical experience
  • creatives with educational background or interested in sharing their skills
  • retired educators

This group is for children 6 months+ to 5 years old, so there are a range of activities that are prepared each week - if you are creative Plunket would love your input into this planning!

It is so much fun watching the little ones explore and gain confidence with sensory play, and you will have a sense of fulfilment as you support parents in enabling this development as well.

It's important that you:

  • love being around little children
  • have a friendly and approachable manner
  • have a willingness to support families as they enjoy this group
  • have an understanding of confidentiality
  • are happy to undergo a police check

A Police background check is required for this role.
