Are you ready for a role that is busy, fast-paced, and filled with heart?

Happiness House provides an open, warm, friendly and confidential environment supporting the wellbeing and resilience of the local community through its many programs. Their Friday Produce programme is one of the most important things they do at Happiness House, and they are looking for volunteers to be part of it.

Friday Produce is their main food support for whānau in the Whakatipu who are experiencing tough times. Each Friday they offer supermarket-style food support in a way that is warm, respectful, and grounded in community supporting community.

What is the role like?

  • It’s a mix of welcoming people, chatting, and offering manaakitanga to everyone who comes through the door.
  • It’s also hands-on: you’ll be lifting boxes, packing bags, setting up food displays, and helping whānau make their selections.
  • It’s fast moving, no week is ever the same, and you’ll need to think on your feet.

What will you gain?
Volunteering with Happiness House is more than just a role – it’s joining a community. Their volunteers say they feel part of something bigger, and enjoy the warmth, humour, and sense of belonging that comes with being part of the Happiness House whānau. They celebrate their volunteers with shared meals, volunteer nights, and even “volunteer of the week” recognition.

Why is this role important?
Every Friday you’ll help create a space where people feel supported, connected, and respected. They are proud to be a no-barriers, inclusive community hub – a place where everyone is treated with dignity.

If you enjoy being part of a team, having a laugh while working hard, and making a real difference in the lives of local whānau, then Happiness House would love to hear from you.

Requirements

  • Available on Fridays (10am–1pm or 1pm–4pm)
  • Comfortable with both physical tasks (lifting and packing) and people-facing tasks (chatting and offering manaakitanga)
  • Friendly, respectful, and adaptable – able to think on your feet in a busy environment
  • Willing to complete a police check (required for all our volunteers as they work with vulnerable adults)
  • Keen to be part of a supportive, fun, community-minded team

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • This role is Friday only, with shifts available:
  • Morning: 10am – 1pm
