Babywearing Queenstown is a newly established charitable branch of Babywearing Aotearoa. Their key mission (kaupapa) is to support local families/whānau by ensuring baby carriers are accessible to all - helping parents and caregivers build strong connections with their baby/pēpi through the comfort and closeness of babywearing. They are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join their Drop-In and Market Stall Crew.

The role involves:

  • Assisting parents and caregivers with safe baby carrier fittings at monthly drop-in sessions.
  • Matching families with carriers from the lending library that meet their specific needs.
  • Helping with outreach efforts like at the local Remarkable Markets and Community events.

Why join the team:

  • Empower families by supporting confident and safe babywearing.
  • Build connections within a passionate, welcoming community group.
  • Gain specialised on-the-job training in baby carrier safety and fitting.

Your time directly contributes to making essential parenting support accessible to everyone in Queenstown.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has knowledge and passion for safe babywearing (though on-the-job training can be provided).
  • Possesses great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Is able to lift and carry reasonable loads (weights are adaptable to volunteer’s ability).
  • Has a knowledge of babies and child development (helpful bonus!).
  • Has basic repair skills to tend to carriers if needed (also a helpful bonus!).

Time commitment

  • Attending monthly drop-in support sessions, currently held every 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 10am - 11am in Frankton.
  • Remarkables Markets: outreach efforts on some Saturday mornings during the 2025-2026 summer season.

Additional opportunities for involvement include:

  • Community Walks: hosting community walks around the Queenstown area at different times and locations.
