Receptionist

Salvation Army Community Ministries provide a range of services with the aim to give a helping hand so people are not dependent on government assistance and can gain a greater level of control over their life.

The Salvation Army is seeking one or two warm, welcoming volunteers to support their reception and administrative team.

In this role you will:

  • Greet visitors warmly and provide manaakitanga (hospitality), ensuring everyone feels valued and respected.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, take messages, and forward calls to the appropriate staff.
  • Respond to general inquiries in person, by phone, or via email.
  • Maintain a tidy and welcoming reception area.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
  • Support staff with scheduling appointments and managing visitor sign-in.
  • Represent The Salvation Army’s Christian ethos and commitment to bicultural practice.

Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • Basic computer skills (email, Word, data entry).
  • Ability to answer phones and take clear messages.
  • Organisational skills for managing reception tasks.
  • Friendly, welcoming, and respectful.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based environment and with diverse cultures.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Mondays: 12-3.30pm
  • Tuesdays: 9.30am - 3.30pm
  • Wednesdays: 12-3.30pm
  • Thursdays: 12-3.30pm
  • Fridays: 12 - 3.30pm
    This role could be filled by 1 or 2 volunteers.
