parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings, and they encourage people of every ability to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; they welcome you all.

parkrun started in 2004 in London with a group of friends, and it has grown to over 2,500 events across 23 countries with more than 12 million registered participants! parkrun Queenstown started in June 2018 and takes place every Saturday morning at 8am in summer (during daylight savings hours) and 9am in winter, starting and finishing in the picturesque Queenstown Gardens, followed by a post-event coffee at Yonder.

10-14 volunteers are needed each week to assist with the Saturday event.

The Social Media Manager is responsible for:

  • Managing content and strategy by creating, scheduling, and overseeing posts across Facebook and Instagram.
  • Engaging with the community and managing all interactions on each social platform.
  • Identifying and sharing local stories and trends to promote the event and celebrate volunteering.
  • Ensuring all social media activity adheres to parkrun’s brand guidelines, values, and safety policies, including the proper use of photos and privacy.

Requirements

Volunteers are sought after, who have:

  • An outgoing, friendly personality with the ability to show initiative.
  • An understanding of parkrun’s values and community-focused ethos.
  • Strong, engaging writing skills and the ability to tailor content for different audiences.
  • Experience managing brand accounts, including, but not limited to Instagram and Facebook.
  • Any other relevant experience related to content creation and management, and or a willingness and enthusiasm to share the parkrun spirit!

Time commitment

1-2 hours during the week (possibly less) at volunteer’s discretion and availability. During the event on Saturday mornings from 7:30am in summer or 8:30am in winter for 1.5-2 hours.
