Fundraising & Projects Champion

Organisation:

Abbeyfield Wanaka

Category:

Fundraising

Hours:

Both/Flexible

Locations:

Wānaka, Hāwea

Wanaka is a place people build their lives in, but for many, it’s becoming a place they can’t afford to grow old in. This role is a chance to help change that.
By sharing your time and ideas, you’ll join a small, passionate group working to address a critical housing shortage for people over 65 who rely on NZ Super. The funds you help raise will directly support the creation of an Abbeyfield house — a place where older people can live independently, with dignity, connection, and a sense of belonging.

About the role:
Abbeyfield Wanaka are looking for a creative, community-minded volunteer to help bring their fundraising ideas to life. You’ll join a friendly team where your voice really matters - whether you’re lending a hand with current projects or dreaming up new ways to rally the town. If you love seeing a good plan come together for a great cause, this role will suit you.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Bringing energy to our current fundraising events and activities
  • Sharing fresh ideas and helping guide new projects
  • Helping see projects through from concept through to delivery
  • Working collaboratively with a small, supportive team
  • Building relationships with local businesses, groups, and supporters
  • Supporting event coordination and on-the-ground delivery when needed

Why join the team?

  • Join a supportive space where new ideas are welcomed and encouraged
  • Meet new people and build local friendships as part of the friendly Abbeyfield family
  • Feel the reward of helping create something tangible and lasting for Wānaka’s future
  • Gain a fresh sense of purpose by using existing skills (or developing new ones) for a vital local cause

Why this role matters:
This is more than volunteering. It’s an opportunity to give back to your community in a meaningful way, to be part of something tangible, and to leave a lasting legacy.

Years from now, people will be living well in a home that exists because of the work you were part of.

Requirements

  • A self-starter who loves seeing ideas turn into reality
  • Someone creative, with fresh ideas and the drive to make them happen
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A team player who communicates well and collaborates easily
  • Comfortable chatting with the community and making connections

Experience is a bonus, but not essential - a genuine heart for the community is what matters most!

Time commitment

  • Flexible hours, averaging approximately 8-10 hours a week during project times
  • Primarily work from home, with occasional involvement in local events
  • Option to attend monthly steering group meetings (approx. 60 minutes)
