Located on a sunny site in South Dunedin, Enliven St Andrews Care Home provides aged residential care for people requiring hospital and/or rest home level support. The care home is made up of three units, each accommodating 26 residents.

As a person-centred organisation, they are committed to respecting and meeting the individual needs of every resident. Mealtime Assistants work closely alongside the care team at all times to support residents and enhance their dining experience.

As a Mealtime Assistant you will:

  • Establish a relationship of trust with residents.
  • Support and encourage residents to eat.
  • Provide social interaction - engaging residents in conversation.
  • Receive full orientation and training.

Volunteers have the opportunity to gain an insight into older person's care, meet new people, and establish new friendships. They can experience a deeply satisfied feeling of having supported a resident by fostering and maintaining their independence.

Requirements

All volunteers:

  • Need to have good balance, vision and hearing, able to walk around the home.
  • Need to be 18 years and over.
  • Will receive appropriate training and supervision for their role.
  • Will be required to sign a Code of Conduct.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • 1-1.5hours weekly
  • 12.15-1.30pm Monday to Sunday
  • 5.00-6.00pm Monday to Sunday
