Port Chalmers Cruise Ship Markets have been in operation for 13 years providing cruise ship passengers high quality New Zealand crafts and products to overseas tourists. The Cruise Ship Markets are held at the Town Hall and Chalmers Lounge on days cruise ships are in port, usually from October to April.
Their Reception Team are a vital part of the Cruise Ship Markets providing support and information to cruise ship passengers, market holders and others who attend the markets.
As a volunteer receptionist you will:
- Sit at the reception desk and welcome cruise ship passengers and other visitors into the market.
- Provide maps and brochures about Port Chalmers to passengers.
- Use a counter to count how many passengers enter the hall during the market.
- Assist the Management team with supporting passengers with local information e.g. local tourist spots, travel options into Dunedin and currency exchange.
- Give out passenger survey forms.
- Experience different cultures and enjoy some lovely conversations with people from around the world.
- Know you making a difference by giving tourists a warm welcome and a positive experience for their visit to Otago.
- Receive a $20 stipend per shift to cover petrol expenses.
Requirements
- Friendly and welcoming
- Confident to talk to people
- Mature outlook
- No experience necessary as training will be given
Time commitment
- 4-5 hours either morning or afternoon shift
- Flexible - do as many shifts per season (October-April) as you are able
