The Outpatient Building at the New Dunedin Hospital is opening soon and will transform how people across Otago and Southland access outpatient healthcare. Health NZ’s goal is to create a welcoming, accessible and supportive environment where patients, whānau and visitors can confidently find their way around the new facility.

Health NZ is seeking friendly, approachable volunteers to work with its Front of House team and help patients and visitors navigate the building. Your support will help people reach the right clinic area for their appointment and feel welcomed and comfortable in a new environment. Every day will be different.

As an Outpatient Building volunteer, you will:

  • Welcome and engage with patients, whānau and visitors as they enter the building.
  • Provide clear directions to clinic and service areas.
  • Escort patients or visitors to their destination when needed.
  • Support the Front of House team to create a welcoming and positive experience.
  • Help people feel comfortable and confident navigating the new building.
  • Engage respectfully and confidently with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Be comfortable spending time on your feet and walking around the building.

Training provided:
Induction will include health and safety, infection prevention and control, cultural awareness, disability awareness and navigational training in the New Dunedin Hospital.

Requirements

This role would suit someone who is:

  • comfortable on their feet for a few hours
  • friendly and welcoming
  • happy approaching and communicating with a diverse range of people.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Approximately 4 hours per week, on a rostered shift.
  • Occasional team meetings will be held as well to help you feel part of the wider volunteer team
