Age Concern Otago promotes the wellbeing, rights and respect of older persons. They also provide expert information and support services in response to older people's needs and are dedicated to upholding the dignity of those over 65 (including their friends, and whānau). Age Concern are active and vocal on relevant issues and work to ensure older people stay connected with their family, friends and community.

As a Meals on Wheels driver you will:

  • Collect and count meals at collection point 
  • Deliver meals in your own car (to all addresses on list - a route is provided each day)
  • Greet and give named meals to specific persons in a friendly manner
  • Return empty cartons to their collection point
  • Deliver meals as either a regular driver or on-call reserve driver

Training provided:

  • Ongoing support via meetings, emails, phone calls and newsletters is provided
  • You will be provided with a delivery schedule

Requirements

  • Friendly, reliable and trustworthy
  • Have your own legal roadworthy car for deliveries (Reg, WoF, Insurance)
  • Good oral communication in English
  • Good sense of humour
  • Interested in older people
  • Patient with good listening skills
  • Able to provide 24 hours notice if unable to deliver on scheduled day
  • Age Concern provides basic orientation for volunteers
  • Police Check

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • A Meals on Wheels run takes approximately one hour to complete
  • Excludes public holidays
  • Just one run a month is enough to help!

Monday – Friday 11:15am (CBD)
Monday – Friday 11:30am (South Dunedin)
Monday – Friday 12:15pm (Wakari Hospital)
Monday – Friday 11:30am (Green Island)

Volunteer South's office is closed from Friday 20th December until Monday January 6th. Many organisations listing roles online will also be taking a break. During this time your requests to connect will go through, however there may be some delay in you hearing from the organisations you select.
