Keep Alexandra Clyde Beautiful is an organisation that is affiliated to Keep New Zealand Beautiful. They are a group of volunteers that are involved with litter abatement, beautification and civic pride. They encourage the involvement of schools and service groups.

The group is involved with Clean Up New Zealand Week, and the beautification of various sites around Alexandra and Clyde such as the hanging baskets in the Golden Block, murals at State Highway 8, and Centennial Ave. Keep Alexandra Clyde Beautiful projects span 35 years and have contributed to council owned and managed open spaces, such as Kamaka Walkway, Rail Trail tree planting Also Lookout Estate Reserve, Shaky Bridge Reserve, and Linger & Die eco-planting.

Keen volunteered are needed for working bees which can involve gardening work such as:

  • plantings
  • maintenance or rubbish clean-ups. 

What the shift will look like:

  • Projects are often very relaxed with the opportunity for breaks and a chat.  
  • Volunteers may bring their own tools but extras are available for use.
  • Some working bees involve working alongside local school children.

Within this role, you will gain practical skills relating to the work undertaken including planting, weeding, landscaping and maintenance, as well as organisation and communication skills. You will enjoy being in a social environment with a relaxed group of fun, diverse people who enjoy each other's company and working outdoors for a fantastic community cause.

Requirements

Interested volunteers must:

  • Have an interest in and support the main aims of the group
  • Be physically able to use various garden tools
  • Integrate well with a variety of people
  • Have a good sense of humour

Time commitment

  • Planting and activity days vary and are sometimes on weekends.
  • Volunteers need not necessarily commit to every working bee. 
  • Volunteers choose how much time they can give, all are welcome!

Volunteer South's office is closed from Friday 20th December until Monday January 6th. Many organisations listing roles online will also be taking a break.
