CanInspire Charitable Trust believes in the power of creativity to uplift and inspire others. CanBead runs jewellery making and beading workshops that offer a therapeutic outlet, bringing hope and joy to those experiencing illness, trauma, or loss. The workshops allow participants to engage with others going through similar challenges, and provide a fun distraction while being creative and expressive. The workshops are offered free of charge and ran in partnership with other charities who act as host agencies.

As a CanBead Workshop Volunteer you will be:

  • Assisting with the delivery of workshops, under the direction of the CanBead Tutor
  • Supporting participants in conjunction with other workshop volunteers and host agency staff
  • Teaching jewellery-making and bead-craft skills
  • Supervising and assisting clients with activities
  • Ensuring that the workshop occurs in a hospitable environment
  • Talking to clients, distributing name tags, serving hot beverages as required

Requirements

This role would suit someone who is:

  • Passionate about creativity and the benefits it has for people experiencing illness, trauma or loss
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Considerate and understanding of people experiencing illness, trauma or loss
  • Friendly, caring and respectful
  • Has jewellery-making experience (not essential)

You will be required to complete a Police Check as you will be working with vulnerable individuals, and you will also be required to sign a Code of Conduct as part of your orientation.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Workshops are usually two hours long
  • You will be required to help with workshop set-up and pack-down - which takes half an hour either side
  • They deliver 50 workshops a year across Southland: approximately one per week
  • Workshops are usually held late morning or early afternoon on a weekday, with the occasional Saturday or Sunday
  • Upcoming dates are circulated monthly; you can confirm your availability for specific workshops with the assigned CanBead Tutor
  • A minimum 1 year commitment is preferable
