Ōtepoti Dunedin Whānau Refuge (ŌDWR) is seeking compassionate and reliable volunteers to join their After-Hours Safe House Intake and Crisis Support team. This 24/7 service is a vital lifeline for women and children experiencing whānau family violence.

As a Volunteer, you will:
- Receive comprehensive training and bi-monthly supervision from our experienced advocate team.
- Be available (when rostered) to support safe house intakes and crisis response.
- Work alongside an ŌDWR advocate during every intake.
- Provide calm, respectful, and compassionate support to women and children during times of heightened stress and crisis.
- Support a safe transition of whānau into safe accommodation.
- Uphold confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times.
- This role offers you an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the safety and wellbeing of women and children.
Requirements
- Aged 20 or 21+
- Based in the Dunedin area
- Full driver’s license required
- Able to commit to at least 3–4 after-hours shifts per month for a minimum of 12 months
- Attend Training
- Commit to attending bimonthly supervision
- Living a life grounded in safety, respect, and freedom from harm
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- Minimum commitment: 3–4 shifts per month over 12 months
- Weekday shifts: Monday–Friday, 4:30pm – 8:30am
- Weekend shift: Friday 8:30am – Monday 8:30am (on-call over the full weekend)
