Every day New Zealanders turn to Blind Low Vision NZ for support with vision loss. BLV provide emotional and practical support with day-to-day tasks that people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision find challenging, so that they can continue working and living independently. BLV are currently looking for volunteers to support their Blind Low Vision Craft Group.
As a Craft Group volunteer you will be:
- Supporting BLV members with the craft projects of their choice
- Assisting a group of 10 - 15 members to explore ideas and suggestions for new projects
- Supported by other volunteers during sessions
- Working with BLV members of all abilities and backgrounds
- Working in a creative, hands on way with members engaging in craft related activities
(BLV has a well resourced arts and crafts room/facility that is located near the Botanic Gardens)
- Someone who loves getting together for a chat and a catch-up while bringing out others creativity
- This group is also supported by volunteers who also help serve afternoon tea at the end of the session
Training provided:
- An induction and training process for volunteering with Blind Low Vision NZ is provided
- You will be supported by the local Volunteer Coordinator

- A passion for Arts, Crafts and the community
- Personable, patient and engaging
- Be able to work with people of all abilities and backgrounds in a supportive way
- Able to oversee, facilitate and participate with small groups
- Someone who enjoys a good chat around practical, hands-on creative activities
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- 3 hours weekly
- The group runs Monday from 1pm - 3pm at the Invercargill Branch of Blind Low Vision NZ
(2 hour session with 30 mins either side for team setup/tidy-up and occasional liaison with BLV Volunteer Coordinator)
- Minimum six month commitment ideally
