Experience the magic of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, and be part of one of Dunedin’s largest cultural celebrations. Held on the 26 October the 2025 Diwali Festival is expected to draw thousands of attendees for a vibrant day filled with traditional dance performances, delicious food stalls, cultural workshops and more. No prior knowledge or expertise in Diwali or Indian culture is required.

  • Set up/Pack down: assist preparing and restoring the event space, handling equipment and supplies.
  • Bouncy Castle team: ensure the safe and enjoyable use of bouncy castles.
  • Crowd Management: assist with crowd control and provide guidance to attendees.
  • Games and Activity helper: provide assistance to ensure smooth running of games and activities.
  • Waste Warriors: maintain the overall cleanliness and organisation of the festival arena and food court.
  • General Support: Provide assistance with various tasks as needed.

All required training, including the health and safety induction will be provided on the day.
Volunteers will be fed as thanks for their support of the day and you'll have plenty of opportunity to get involved with the many goings-on at the festival too!

Your support is essential in ensuring the smooth running of the event.

Requirements

  • Open to anyone over the age of 16
  • Great for a couple of friends to do together.
  • You don't need any knowledge or expertise in Diwali or India in general - all questions about this at the festival can be directed to the Dunedin Indian Association team.
  • Being comfortable working with people, including interacting with young children, is helpful.
  • We are ensuring accessibility at this event so anyone is able to apply. We'll check in with any requirements you might have before the day.

Time commitment

Event os on Sunday the 26 October, 2025. The event runs between 3PM and 8PM, so most roles will be 2PM to 8PM with breaks and support provided.
