Shaping our Future Charitable Trust facilitates open, independent, resident-driven conversations that help communities in the Upper Clutha and Queenstown Lakes Districts shape future decision-making. Through forums, workshops, and community engagement, they bring people together to discuss local challenges, develop solutions, and share recommendations with decision-makers. Their work makes it easier for residents to have a voice in how their communities grow and adapt to change.
The Treasurer provides governance oversight of the Trust’s financial management and supports the Board to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable, transparent, and accountable.
The Treasurer works closely with the Chairperson, Executive Officer, accountant, and Board members to support sound financial management and reporting practices.
Key responsibilities:
The Treasurer will:
- Support development and monitoring of the Trust’s annual budget and financial forecasts.
- Provide financial oversight and monitor the financial position of the Trust.
- Review monthly financial reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cashflow reporting.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls and processes are maintained.
- Support accurate financial record-keeping through Xero.
- Assist the Board to understand the Trust’s financial position and key risks.
- Support project budgeting and financial reporting where required
- Ensure annual financial statements and audit/review requirements are completed
- Liaise with the Trust’s accountant and external auditor
- Present financial updates at Board meetings
- Support compliance with relevant charitable trust and financial reporting obligations.
Requirements
This role will suit someone who:
- Has experience in financial management, accounting, bookkeeping, or governance.
- Is confident reviewing financial reports and budgets.
- Has experience using Xero or similar accounting software.
- Is organised, accurate, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Can communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Understands governance responsibilities and financial accountability within the charitable or community sector.
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- Approximately 1 hour per week for general tasks.
- 2-5 hours per month for monthly reporting and board meeting.
- 5-10 hours per year for annual performance report.
