The Whakatipu Reforestation Trust's vision is to restore the biodiversity of the Whakatipu Basin through revegetation projects, education, collaboration and advocacy.

Their community nursery, located at Jardine Park in Kelvin Heights and established in 2014, is where they grow all of their native plants for community planting days on public land around the Whakatipu Basin.

These sessions are open to everyone in the community. No experience is needed and the Nursery Coordinator is there to assist all volunteers.

While helping at the nursery you might be:

  • potting up young native seedlings and weeding pots
  • having an opportunity to learn new skills
  • gaining knowledge about growing native plants
  • making a difference to our local environment
  • enjoying morning tea with your fellow volunteers
  • meeting lots of interesting people

Requirements

  • No specific skills are required, just a willingness to learn about growing native plants and a desire to make a personal difference to our beautiful environment.
  • Please bring your own gardening gloves, hat, water and sunscreen.
  • You will need to organise your own transport to Jardine Park, Poplar Drive, Kelvin Heights.
