Drive My Life Clutha supports people who face barriers to gaining their driver's licence, such as limited support at home, financial hardship, learning needs, or being new to the area. Volunteer mentors are needed to supervise learner drivers as they practice behind the wheel 🚘. Speaking another language or having translation skills would make you a great asset in this role 🗣️.
Mentors are matched with one learner at a time and support them until they pass their restricted test. The role is not about teaching technical skills but being a steady, encouraging presence during driving practice.
This is a rewarding way to help someone reach a life-changing goal, making a big difference for people who are unemployed, new to the country, living in rural areas, or facing learning or financial challenges. Helping someone get their licence can open doors to work, study, and independence.
The programme supplies a car, covers fuel and insurance, and provides training and ongoing support. Learners are based in the Clutha area and sessions are arranged to suit both the learner and the mentor.
Full training and ongoing support are available.

A Police background check is required for this role.
The time commitment is flexible and depends on the learner’s needs. Volunteers usually arrange regular driving sessions with their learner, which can vary but often range from one to a few hours per week until the learner is ready to pass their driving test.
