August 2025
Age Concern Otago–Waitaki is grateful to have Helen as part of their volunteer team. Helen goes above and beyond to ensure that members have opportunities to socialise in fun and engaging ways.
Helen, along with her sidekick Audrey (a beloved therapy dog), is the driving force behind the van trips to Timaru for the Operatunity concerts. These trips are so popular that all seats were booked by January for the eight concerts scheduled in 2025. Members have a fantastic time, with each trip ending in a stop at the Waimate Bakery on the way home. These outings are a wonderful way for people to spend the day connecting with others.
Helen also introduced Age Concern Otago–Waitaki to the annual Oamaru Santa Parade. Thanks to her initiative, their Christmas-themed van, complete with an eagle-eyed team of festively dressed seniors armed with water pistols, has become a much-loved annual tradition. It’s a brilliant way to celebrate seniors and show that you're never too old to have fun.
Each week, Helen also handles pick-up and drop-off for a group of gentle exercise enthusiasts, finishing the afternoon with a scenic drive before returning everyone home.
Helen does everything with a smile, quiet determination, and a very generous heart. She always puts the wellbeing of members first and makes a meaningful difference in their lives. Age Concern Otago–Waitaki is incredibly thankful for her energy, positivity, and commitment.
