St Andrews would love to recognise their wonderful volunteer Bex for her ongoing contribution to life at St Andrews—and most recently, for her support during a very special outing aboard the Seasider train.
The trip was no small undertaking. It involved a great deal of preparation, coordination, and effort from our team—but Bex was there every step of the way, helping ensure our residents had a smooth, safe, and truly memorable experience.
From the moment planning began, the excitement among residents was contagious. Having Bex involved made a real difference—not just in the logistics, but in the warm and joyful energy she brought to the day. On the train, they had their very own carriage, and seeing the residents' faces light up as they looked out at the scenery, sharing stories and memories, was incredibly moving. A few family members joined too, which made the day even more special.
Bex volunteers as an activities assistant, working closely with the activities coordinator to support everything from housie (bingo) and entertainment afternoons to pamper sessions. She brings comfort, connection, and a gentle spark of joy to everything she does.
In Bex’s own words: “I volunteer as an activities assistant at St Andrews, supporting the incredible activities coordinator. I first got involved through entertainment afternoons, and have since taken part in all sorts of activities—from housie (bingo) to pamper afternoons with gentle facials and nail care. At the heart of it, my goal is simple: to bring joy, connection, and care to each day I’m there. If the residents are smiling when I leave, I know I’ve done something right.”
They couldn’t agree more. They’re so lucky to have Bex as part of the team.
