Every Dunedin Thunder game day runs on energy, excitement — and an army of volunteers. From ticketing to timekeeping, there’s no shortage of helping hands. But at the heart of it all are three unstoppable forces: Graeme, Sharon, and Dave — the glue that holds the whole show together.

As volunteer team managers, Graeme and Sharon do the unseen mahi that makes a huge difference. They’re there before the puck drops, making sure every jersey, stick, and schedule is sorted. Sharon brings calm, care, and killer organisation, while Graeme somehow solves every problem with a grin and a can-do attitude.

Then there’s Dave. Officially the General Manager — also in a volunteer capacity — and unofficially the guy who does everything else. He balances budgets, brings on sponsors, and on game day? He becomes Thor, the mascot, getting the crowd pumped and the kids smiling. He’s a leader, a hustler, and a fan all rolled into one.

Between them, they also coordinate the wider team of volunteers — ensuring each game runs smoothly, safely, and with the signature Thunder spirit. "They are proper legends"!

While it takes many to make game day happen, these three are the heartbeat of the Thunder family. Their hours of unpaid, passionate work are what keep the wheels turning and the team thriving.

Volunteering isn’t always glamorous — but it’s powerful, rewarding, and absolutely essential. Just ask Graeme, Sharon and Dave — the kind of people who don’t just support a team, they are the team.
