After four decades of support for volunteering in the Southern region, Volunteer South’s new board has signalled their intention to wind down the organisation due to a challenging financial situation. A final decision on this will be made on 24 August, 2026.
The board recognises the value of volunteering and the impact and accessibility of volunteer services that a volunteer centre provides. Our staff who have continued to facilitate this work through challenging circumstances will have their last day on 14 August, 2026, while the board works through next steps for organisation. We are proud to have had such resilient and hard-working staff throughout this time, and we know that they will continue to be leaders in their communities.
The board has committed to continuing the volunteer database for volunteer-involving organisations to list roles, and for volunteers to find roles, for as long as possible. The board is actively communicating with stakeholders to enable this continuity, and we appreciate your patience if there is a delay in response while we work through this behind the scenes.
The board remains committed to the provision of volunteer services within its current means. We know how much the work Volunteer South has done to support volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations has been critical to the success of volunteering in the Southern region, and we do not take the current situation lightly. We are grateful for your patience, your partnership over the years, and your understanding while we work through this.
